News Story: South Korea's DSME Launched the 2nd Type 209/1200 Submarine for Indonesia (TNI AL)

Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) announced on October 24 that the second of three DSME1400 class submarines it is building for the Indonesian Navy has been launched at its Okpo Shipyard. This marks an important milestone in the ongoing submarine program for the Indonesian Navy, setting the stage for its sea trials, and eventual delivery on schedule in by October 2017. Work on successive boat is also underway. All three are expected to be delivered by the end of 2018.

The 1,400-ton submarine measures 61m in length, capable of accommodating 40 crews and long range operations up to 10,000 nautical miles. It can undertake various missions including anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, intelligence gathering, operations by special forces and mine laying.
