News Story: J-15 carrier fighter ready to enter production - report


China's J-15, designed as a carrier-based fighter, is ready to enter production after completing a touch-and-go landing drill on the deck of the Liaoning, the country's first aircraft carrier, reported US-based military website Strategy Page on Oct. 29.

Twenty J-15 prototypes have already been produced by Shenyang Aircraft Corporation, the website said. Also known as the Flying Shark, the first J-15 was designed in 2010 as the naval version of the air force's J-11 fighters. The development of the J-15 was a necessity as Russia refused to sell its Su-33 carrier-based fighters to China.
