News Story: New PLA heads likely to be named on Central Committee


The next Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party will likely have a more military flavor, reports our Chinese-language sister paper Want Daily.

Last week the People's Liberation Army underwent a major personnel overhaul as seven members of the Central Military Commission were replaced after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 68.

Since 2004, the commanders of the PLA Navy, Air Force and Second Artillery Corps have been elected members of the party's Central Committee. This suggests that the new head of the PLA Air Force, Ma Xiaotian, and the new head of the Second Artillery Corps, Wei Fenghe, are likely to be named committee members at the 18th National Congress commencing on Nov. 8 in Beijing.
