News Story: 7 people wounded in grenade blast in Indian-controlled Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people including two policemen and a paramilitary trooper were wounded in a grenade blast Sunday in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The grenade blast took place in Sopore town of Baramulla district, about 48 km northwest of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Reports said militants hurled a grenade inside a bullet proof vehicle of police, however a policemen inside the vehicle threw it out immediately, resulting in its blast on road.

"Alert special police officer (SPO) throws away grenade to safer place which was hurled inside security force vehicle thus saving lives of dozen police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel," a police spokesman said. "Two policemen and CRPF man suffered minor wounds."

Meanwhile, civilians wounded in the attack were immediately taken to government medical facility in the town.

News Story: 3 killed, 30 injured in grenade attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least three civilians were killed and 30 others including seven paramilitary troopers wounded Thursday in a grenade attack in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.

The grenade attack was carried out in Tral town of Pulwama district, about 41 km south of Srinagar city.

"Suspected militants threw a grenade and then resorted to indiscriminate firing in Tral town near bus terminal," a police official said. "The grenade missed the intended target and exploded on road killing and wounding civilians."

Health officials said three civilians were killed and 30 others brought to hospital in wounded condition.

News Story: Grenade blast kills 1, wounds 14 in Indian-controlled Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed and 14 others were wounded Thursday in a grenade blast in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The blast took place in the evening at Jehangir Chowk in Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"One person was brought dead and over 12 others were brought in wounded condition here this evening," Dr. Nazir Choudhary, superintendent of SMHS hospital told Xinhua. "The wounded are being provided medical aid."

News Story: Pakistani forces arrest 6 terror suspects, recover arms - army

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani security forces have arrested 6 terror suspects and seized arms during search operations in two tribal regions, the military said on Tuesday.

The security forces on Tuesday carried out search operations in parts of Mohmand tribal agency, bordering Afghanistan, on reports of terrorist hideout, a statement from the army's media wing Inter-Services Public Relations said.

Suicide jackets, improvised explosive devices, rockets, hand grenades, detonators, huge amount of various calibre ammunition and communication equipment were also recovered, it said.

News Story: Suspects arrested, heavy ammunition recovered in SW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Several suspects were arrested and a heavy cache of arms and ammunition were recovered by Pakistani security forces during last four days in an ongoing operation in different areas in the country's southwest province of Balochistan, local media reported on Saturday.

The intelligence based search and hunt operation in the province is part of the ongoing Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad.

Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad was launched by the Pakistani army in support of local law enforcement agencies to de-weaponize the society and to eliminate the hidden terrorist sleeper cells across the country on Feb. 22 this year after a series of lethal terrorist attacks.

News Story: Troops kill 3 militants in Indian-controlled Kashmir gunfight

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Three militants were killed Saturday in a fierce gunfight with troops in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The gunfight between militants and government forces broke out at Satoora village of Tral in Pulwama district, about 50 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"A gunfight triggered at Satoora-Tral today in which three militants were killed," a police spokesman said. "The stand-off was going on in the forest area."

According to police spokesman, the area was cordoned off on specific intelligence inputs about presence of militants.

The identity of slain militants was being ascertained.

News Story: Twin blasts kill at least 18, injure over 100 in northwest Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, June 23 (Xinhua) -- At least 18 people were killed and over 100 others injured as twin blasts ripped through a market on Friday afternoon in Parachinar, capital city of Pakistan's northwest tribal area of Kurram Agency, reported local Urdu TV channel Geo.

The attack took place at about 5:30 p.m. local time when a handgrenade was hurled into the crowds of the people busy with shopping at a downtown market of the city for the coming Eid, a holiday which marks the end of the fast month Ramadan, said local media.

The second blast happened a few minutes after people gathered at the first blast site for rescue, local media quoted eyewitnesses as saying.

The second blast seems to be of suicide nature, said local media. But there is no official confirmation about it yet.

Army and security personnel have rushed to the site shortly after the twin blasts were reported.

News Story: 7 paramilitary troopers wounded in Indian-controlled Kashmir grenade attack

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, June 13 (Xinhua) -- At least seven paramilitary troopers of India's Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were wounded, some of them critically, on Tuesday evening in a grenade attack in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The grenade attack was carried out by suspected militants at village Laryar-Tral of Pulwama district, about 43 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"This evening militants hurled a grenade on our men in Laryar village of Tral, wounding seven personnel," Rajesh Yadav, CRPF spokesperson in Srinagar, told Xinhua.

"Though the wounded personnel were immediately removed to hospital, the condition of three of them was stated to be critical."

Maute assets seizure pushed

MANILA, Philippines -  The leader of the Islamic State (IS) himself ordered the siege of Marawi City, which has been ravaged by prolonged clashes between government forces and Maute militants for the past three weeks, President Duterte said yesterday.

Speaking to reporters in Cagayan de Oro City, Duterte said IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi “specifically ordered the conduct of terroristic activities in the Philippines.”

“We had known all along the buildup here in Marawi. That is why if you were tracking my statements in public, (what I said) was, ‘Do not force my hand into it.’ Because there were already terroristic acts… the victims were innocent men and women and children,” Duterte said.

“We suffered several casualties. I did not expect it to be that serious. Now, lumabas na si Baghdadi mismo (it turned out that Baghdadi himself), the leader of the ISIS, has specifically ordered terroristic activities here in the Philippines,” he added.

Duterte previously claimed that the Maute group has links with the IS, which adheres to an extremist interpretation of Islam and promotes violence against non-Muslims. He said wanted terrorist Isnilon Hapilon has been named leader of the IS in the Philippines and is seeking to establish a caliphate in the country.

The Philippines was a bit complacent on the looming threats in Mindanao, according to the President.

“But the military and the police, they warned me that it has become critical in Mindanao,” he said.

News Story: Thailand tightens security after weapons found

Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s authorities on June 4 tightened security in the capital city of Bangkok and cities nationwide following recent bomb blasts and the discovery of weapons.

A large amount of arms, including 30 AK-47 assault rifles, some M-79 grenade launchers, and ammunition, were discovered in a pickup truck in the province of Trat, bordering Cambodia on June 3. The driver was a soldier from a military unit in Bangkok.

Previously, grenades were found inside a parcel at a Bangkok courier service, suggesting it was an attempt to smuggle army supplies for sale on the black market, according to local police. An army corporal was detained for investigation.

News Story: 4 hand grenades defused at postal shop in Bangkok

BANGKOK, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Four hand grenades were found inside a postal box in the Thai capital Bangkok and were finally defused by police on Friday.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit defused the M67 grenades at the private-owned postal shop in Bangkhen area after a shopkeeper had called the police for help.

The EOD police used duct tape to tie up the safety pins of the grenades which could possibly blow up and kill or injure people in five to 10 meters radius, the police said. They are yet to be disposed of by the EOD police at a later date.

News Story: Police lock down Saitama Pref. train station after delivery of suspected explosive

HANNO, Saitama -- The station staff of JR Higashi-Hanno Station called police on the morning of May 25 when what appeared to be two grenade-like objects were delivered to the station office, it has been learned.

The Hanno Police Station reports that a man believed to be in his 70s brought the two metal objects to the staff, telling them that he found them discarded in nearby bushes before walking away. The objects were roughly 30 centimeters tall and 5 centimeters in diameter at their thickest part. Police are currently confirming if the items are explosives.

New Story: Security forces foil terror bid in southwestern Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani security forces foiled a terror bid by confiscating heavy cache of weapons in Quetta, the provincial capital of the country's southwest Balochistan Province, the military said.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan army's media wing, said in a statement that the security forces raided a hidden weapons depot on Saturday and seized a huge quantity of a variety of weapons in the outskirts of Quetta.

The statement said that the weapons, including locally-made improvised explosive devices, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, hundreds of hand-grenades and other weapons and ammunitions.

News Report: Daesh Key Commander in Eastern Afghanistan Surrenders to Authorities

Daesh commander, known as Wafadar, Surrendered to Afghan authorities in eastern Nangarhar province, according to local media.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A key commander of the Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh) terrorist group, outlawed in many countries, including Russia, Surrendered to Afghan authorities in eastern Nangarhar province, local media reported Thursday.

According to Khaama news agency, the Daesh commander, known as Wafadar, was in charge of a group of at least 15 militants, and was involved in terror activities in Chaparhar, Haska Mina and Kot districts. Before joining the Daesh jihadists, he was involved in the activities of the Taliban radical movement, banned in Russia.

He reportedly handed over a pistol, two hand grenades and a communications device to the government authorities.

Afghanistan has long been suffering from unstable political, social and security situation due to the activity of the Daesh terrorists and the Taliban. The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces are currently conducting joint offensive operations to combat terrorism across the country.

News Report: Kabul Police Arrest Suicide Attacker Preparing Terror Act

The suicide attacker carrying three hand grenades, a pistol, and a suicide bombing vest with him was arrested by Afghan police in Kabul, according to local media.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Afghan police arrested a would-be suicide attacker possessing a Pakistani passport in the capital city of Kabul, local media reported Thursday, citing the police commandment.

The suicide attacker was arrested late on Tuesday carrying three hand grenades, a pistol, and a suicide bombing vest with him, the Khaama news agency reported.

Earlier in May, local media reported that Afghanistan's security forces foiled three explosion plots by militants in Kabul in less than a week.

Afghanistan has been facing instability for many years, with government troops fighting against Islamic extremists and terror organizations, in particular the Taliban radical movement and the Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh) terrorist group, both banned in Russia.

News Story: Civilian killed, 4 wounded in grenade attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, April 30 (Xinhua) -- A civilian was killed and four others, including three policemen, were wounded Sunday in a grenade attack on police party in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The grenade was hurled in the evening in Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"This evening militants threw a grenade towards police party outside police station in Khanyar locality, which wounded five people, including three policemen," a police spokesman told Xinhua.

"Of the wounded, one civilian succumbed to his wounds, while as another civilian and three policemen were immediately removed to hospital for treatment," said the spokesman.

Following the attack, police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) contingents rushed to the spot to carry out searches aimed at nabbing suspected militants.

The attack created panic in the area.

So far no militant group has claimed responsibility of the attack.

News Story: 2 killed in S. Thailand attacks

BANGKOK, April 20 (Xinhua) -- South Thailand has been hit twice by more than a dozen of bomb blasts and gun attacks within a month, killing two, officials said on Thursday.

According to local media, suspected militants launched 13 grenade and gun attacks in 12 separate districts of three southernmost provinces of Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla at about 7 p.m. local time Wednesday night.

Local media reported the attacks targeted police stations and checkpoints. No group has claimed for the attacks.

A spokesman for Thailand's Internal Security Operations Command was quoted by local media as saying that eight other civilians and officials were wounded in the violence.

News Story: Waves of attacks across southern Thailand

Bangkok (VNA) – Synchronised attacks took place in at least 13 locations in Thailand’s three southernmost provinces of Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla on April 19.

According to the Internal Security Operations Command, the attacks, mostly with grenades, resulted in some deaths and injuries in the three provinces.

Seven attacks were reported in Narathiwat province. A special task force unit and a military base were hit by grenades.

News Story: Pakistani forces recover huge cache of arms in tribal areas - army

ISLAMABAD, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan army said on Sunday that the security forces have recovered huge cache of arms in two tribal regions that were used for terrorist activities in the country.

The army and other law enforcement agencies are currently engaged in intelligence-based operations across the country to target the hideouts of the militants and their facilitators.

The military announced on Feb. 22 the start of the operation codenamed "Radd-ul-Fasaad," or "Reject Discord" in English, after a series of terrorist attacks that killed over 100 people in the country.

"Security forces recover huge cache of arms and ammunition including rockets, prepared IEDs, explosive, grenades, mortar bombs, different types of weapons and communication equipment" from Kalaya area in Orakzai tribal agency and Parachinar in Kurram tribal agency, the army said.

News Story: 31 Philippine soldiers injured in clash with Islamic militants

MANILA, April 3 (Xinhua) -- At least 31 Philippine soldiers, including two military officers, have been wounded in fresh clash with Muslim militants in the southern Philippine Sulu province, the military said Monday.

Col. Cirilito Sobejana of the Philippine Army said that a lieutenant colonel and a lieutenant were among those hit by shrapnel from explosives fired by more than 100 Abu Sayyaf militants during a heavy fighting that broke out Sunday in a remote town in Sulu province.

He said the firefight lasted about half an hour, adding that the bandits were forced to flee from pursuing troops.

Sobejana said the two officers and the rest of the injured soldiers are now in stable condition and recuperating in local hospitals.
