News Report: ‘Tame' Trump - 4.7 Million North Koreans Reportedly Ready to Volunteer for War

Turns out Kim Jong-un wasn't joking around when he said the DPRK would "tame [US President Donald Trump] with fire" last week.

According to Rodong Sinmun, a North Korean outlet, an estimated 4.7 million students and workers indicated they would volunteer to join or re-enlist in the Korean People's Army in the hopes of countering US forces.

Included in the estimates are some 1.22 million women, the outlet reported Thursday.

Kim's latest move backs up a statement he issued last week vowing to take the "highest-level" of actions in response to Trump's United Nations speech, Yonhap News reported.

News Report: North Korea Claims US Has Declared War

Margaret Besheer

UNITED NATIONS — North Korea's Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho said Monday the United States has declared war on his country and Pyongyang would take counter-actions if threatened, including shooting down American war planes in the region.

Ri directly linked U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments Saturday night on social media platform Twitter to the threat.

In a tweet late Saturday responding to Ri’s United Nations General Assembly speech earlier in the day, Trump wrote: “Just heard Foreign Minister of North Korea speak at U.N. If he echoes thoughts of Little Rocket Man, they won't be around much longer!”

On Monday, North Korea's foreign minister responded:

“Given the fact that this comes from someone who is currently holding the seat of United States presidency, this is clearly a declaration of war," Ri told reporters outside his New York hotel. "All the member states participating in the United Nations and the whole world should clearly remember that it was the U.S. who first declared war on our country."

The North Korean foreign minister added, "we will have every right to make countermeasures, including the right to shoot down the United States strategic bombers, even when they are not yet inside the airspace border of our country,” he warned.

News Story: White House says U.S. has not declared war on DPRK

NEW YORK, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- The United States has not declared war on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the White House said on Monday, in response to remarks of the DPRK's top diplomat.

"Last weekend, Trump claimed that our leadership wouldn't be around much longer. He declared a war on our country," Ri Yong-ho, the DPRK foreign minister, told reporters earlier in New York.

"The whole world should clearly remember it was the U.S. who first declared war on our country," Ri said, referring to Trump's tweet message on Saturday.

In response, the White House denied that the United States had declared war on Pyongyang.

"We have not declared war on North Korea and frankly the suggestion of that is absurd," White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders told a regular briefing in Washington.

"Our goal is still the same. We continue to seek the peaceful denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula," she said.

North Korean Nuclear Weapons Means of Self-Protection - Foreign Minister

UNITED NATIONS, September 23 (Sputnik) — North Korean nuclear weapons are means of self-protection with Pyongyang striving for the balance of power with Washington, North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho said on Saturday.

"The possession of nuclear deterrence by the DPRK is a righteous self-defensive measure taken as an ultimate option, pursuant to this principle… Our national nuclear force is, to all intents and purposes, a war deterrent for putting an end to nuclear threat of the US and for preventing its military invasion; and our ultimate goal is to establish the balance of power with the US," the minister said in his address to the UN General Assembly.

DPRK Says Nuke Launch at US "Inevitable"

Pyongyang claimed on Saturday that launching ballistic missiles toward the US is "inevitable all the more" due to US President Donald Trump's labelling of DPRK leader Kim Jong-un as "rocket man".

Just hours after USAF B-1B nuclear-weapon-capable bombers flew close to the northern nation, North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho in his statement to the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday said that Pyongyang's launch of missiles toward the US was "inevitable all the more," although he did not specify more details.

News Report: North Korea Warns US of ‘Final Ruin’ After Trump Takes Military Bluster to UN

The US will face a “horrible nuclear strike and miserable and final ruin” if US President Donald Trump puts his threat to “totally destroy” North Korea into action, according to a Wednesday statement published by the Korea Central News Agency.

US President Donald Trump’s renewed threat to "totally destroy North Korea" during comments before the UN General Assembly in New York this week only bolsters Pyongyang’s internal propaganda that the US wants to kill North Koreans – and thus the contention that the nation must build a powerful nuclear arsenal to thwart a pending US strike.

News Story: DPRK slams Japanese lawmaker for drumming up military rearmament

PYONGYANG, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea on Wednesday slammed a Japanese lawmaker for drumming up military rearmament by creating various pretexts of threats from the DPRK.

The official daily Rodong Sinmun said that Katsuyuki Kawai, who is also a special aide to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, has recently said there is need to discuss the issue of arming its Self-Defense Forces with intermediate-range ballistic missiles and cruise missiles.

The Japanese lawmaker also recently met with the head of the Heritage Foundation, a Washington-based policy research institute, and asserted the need to introduce cruise missiles into Self-Defense Forces, said the official daily of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea.

PacificSentinel: If the North Koreans don't want Japan to have Cruise/Ballistic Missiles then it's quite simple, remove the motivation for the acquisition, STOP launching Ballistic Missiles over Japan and threatening to sink their island, then there won't be a need for the Missiles.

News Story: DPRK condemns latest U.N. Security Council press statement

PYONGYANG, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Monday condemned the press statement released last week by the United Nations Security Council, which urges implementation of Resolution 2375 after the DPRK conducted another medium-range ballistic missile test.

In a spokesman's statement, the DPRK Ministry of Foreign Affairs specifically pointed the finger at the United States for its alleged role in bringing about the U.N. Security Council press statement, and lashed out at the latest U.N. sanctions on the DPRK in response to its nuclear programs.

It said that "the anti-DPRK sanctions campaign of the U.S. has grown so reckless as to impose a full-scale blockade of all sections to include areas directly related to the livelihood of civilian population as well as foreign trade of the country."

"This is the most vicious, unethical and inhumane act of hostility to physically exterminate the people of the DPRK, let alone its system and government," it said.

News Story: DPRK accuses U.S. of planning to re-deploy tactical nuclear weapons in S. Korea

PYONGYANG, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Friday accused the United States of planning to re-deploy tactical nuclear weapons in South Korea.

The spokesman for the Institute of American Studies at the DPRK's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the Trump Administration is publicizing through the media the "possibility of redeploying tactical nuclear weapons" into South Korea and developing an up-to-date miniaturized nuclear bomb.

"Recently, NBC and other American press reported that the Trump administration is currently examining various plans of developing an up-to-date miniaturized nuclear bomb of low intensity to deal with nuclear threats posed by countries like the DPRK and Russia," the official Korean Central News Agency quoted the spokesman as saying.

The spokesman said the deliberate leakage of the information about tactical nuclear weapons by the Trump administration "coincides with its moves to impose heinous sanctions, pressure and military threat on the DPRK."

News Report: N Korea Warns Australia, UK Against Participation in S Korea-US Drills

North Korean authorities in a statement warned Australia and the United Kingdom to refrain from joining the ongoing exercises by South Korea and the United States dubbed the Ulchi Freedom Guardian (UFG).

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On Monday, Seoul and Washington started the UFG, which is scheduled to continue through August 31. According to the US Department of Defense, UN Command forces from seven other states, including both Australia and the United Kingdom, are participating in the drills.

"Availing ourselves of this opportunity, we solemnly warn not only the US and [South Korean] puppet group but also satellites, including UK and Australia, which are taking advantage of the present war maneuvers against the north that they would face a miserable end if they join in play with fire by tiger moths of war," a spokesman for the National Peace Committee, North Korea's institution dealing with inter-Korean issues, said in a statement as quoted by the official KCNA news agency.

The drills, in which involve the participation of about 17,500 US servicemen and about 50,000 South Korean troops, have been repeatedly criticized by North Korea, which has promised to take retaliatory steps against both the United States and South Korea in light of the exercises.

The United States and South Korea have a long history of cooperation in the sphere of defense dating back to the Korean War in the 1950s. Within the framework of this alliance, the sides hold joint military exercises on a regular basis.

News Report: North Korea Finishes Preparation for Guam Strike - Embassy in Russia

The charge d’affaires of the North Korean embassy in Russia told Sputnik that Pyongyang has finished preparationg for a strike on the US territory of Guam and is ready to carry it out in case of a "provocation."

The US must stop pressuring North Korea, the North Korean embassy's charge d’affaires Jin Jong Hyop said, emphasizing that whether there is a war on the Korean Peninsula depends on Washington.

"As you know, we have completed the preparation of the Guam strike. Everything will depend on whether the United States acts sensibly or not. If they do not do so, they will be shamed yet again on the Korean Peninsula in front of the whole world," Jin Jong Hyop said.

"They must stop blatant provocations and unilateral pressure," Jin Jong Hyop said. "This will determine whether there will be a war on the Korean peninsula or not."

The North Korean diplomat also said that Pyongyang had already proposed a moratorium on nuclear tests, but Washington chose to launch military drills with Seoul in response.

News Story: DPRK says alleged regional threat comes from Japan

PYONGYANG, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- The official media of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) said Tuesday that Japan is responsible for undermining the region's security due to its re-militarization and active participation in U.S.-led military maneuvers against Pyongyang.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said in a commentary that in its 2017 defense white paper published on Aug. 8, Japan Defense Ministry described the DPRK's nuclear and missile development as a "serious threat to Japan."

"The reckless action of Japan as a shock brigade of the U.S. pushing the situation of the Korean Peninsula to the worst crisis clearly reveals its sinister militarist scheme," it said, citing recent joint drills between Japan and the United States in waters off the Korean Peninsula.

News Story: DPRK says U.S.-South Korea joint drill plunges Peninsula situation into critical phase

PYONGYANG, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Monday said the U.S.-South Korean joint military drill has plunged the Korean Peninsula into a critical phase.

The DPRK's state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said the scale of the U.S. military involvement in the exercise known as Ulchi-Freedom Guardian "far outnumbers the one in the last year."

"What is more serious is the fact that brass hats of the U.S. military, including the commanders of the U.S. forces in the Pacific and the Strategic Forces, visited South Korea on the eve of the rehearsal," the KCNA said.

News Report: Pyongyang - US, South Korean Military Drills Pushing Peninsula 'Into Nuclear War'

Joint military exercises by the US and South Korea are only "adding fuel to the fire" on the Korean Peninsula, Pyongyang said on Sunday.

The Ulchi Freedom Guardian exercises set to start on Monday, plus the new sanctions on North Korea by the US and the UN, are making things worse instead of easing tensions on the peninsula, the Pyongyang organ Rodong Sinmun said in a Sunday editorial, Yonhap reports.

Indeed, the exercises are "reckless behavior driving the situation into the uncontrollable phase of a nuclear war," Rodong Sinmun warned.

"The joint exercise is the most explicit expression of hostility against us, and no one can guarantee that the exercise won't evolve into actual fighting," the paper warned. "If the United States is lost in a fantasy that war on the peninsula is at somebody else's door far away from them across the Pacific, it is far more mistaken than ever."

At least 75,000 troops will take part in the 10-day war games, a huge-scale, computer-simulated drill designed to help American and South Korean forces practice defending South Korea against an invasion, according to the US Defense Department. Washington insists that the drills are "defensive," but Pyongyang sees them, and military drills that practice taking out North Korean leadership, as provocations.

News Story: DPRK slams South Korea's decision to deploy additional THAAD launch pads

PYONGYANG, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Sunday slammed South Korea's decision to deploy four additional launch pads of the Terminal High Altitude Areas Defense (THAAD) system under alleged threat from DPRK missiles.

The official daily Rodong Sinmum said the decision, made by South Korean Ministry of Defense recently, is "an unpardonable act against the nation aimed at unconditionally accepting the demand of its U.S. master even at the sacrifice of the destiny and interests of the South Korean people."

"From the outset, the South Korean ruling forces have had no intention to roll back the plan for deploying THAAD," it said.

"On the contrary, they have borne an ill will to do harm to the fellow countrymen through tightened 'alliance' with the United States by deploying THAAD," it said.

News Story: DPRK accuses Japan of planning cyberspace war of aggression

PYONGYANG, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Saturday accused Japan of building a cyberspace attack force in its military under the pretext of self-defense.

The official newspaper Rodong Sinmun said the Japanese Defense Ministry is planning to boost the size and capability of its cyber unit under the excuse of self-defense against hackers.

The members of the cyber unit will be drastically increased and a department for specializing in cyber attack capability will be set up.

"Their cyber unit is not for merely protecting the computer system of the Self-Defense Forces (SDF) from hacking, but for attacking the computer systems of its rivals," said the newspaper, adding that once the unit has the capability to attack, the SDF will "completely turn into the force in attack formation."

PYONGYANG, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Saturday condemned U.S. Vice President Mike Pence's pressure on some Latin American countries to break ties with Pyongyang, saying this is another example of U.S. interference into other countries' internal affairs.

"This was not the first time for the U.S. to urge the countries which have friendly and cooperative relations with the DPRK to sever the diplomatic and economic relations with it," the DPRK official Korean Central News Agency quoted a spokesman for the ministry of foreign affairs as saying.

On Wednesday, Pence called several Latin American countries to join U.S. efforts to isolate the DPRK.

News Story: DPRK slams South Korean president for north policy

PYONGYANG, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Friday slammed South Korean President Moon Jae-in for his policy towards the north and his close cooperation with the United States.

It is the first time for DPRK to make Moon personally responsible for his handling of the north-south relations since he came to power about 100 days ago.

The official daily Rodong Sinmun criticized the South Korean leader, who in a Tuesday speech asserted that Seoul's "big challenge at present" is an "issue of the north's nukes and missile."

Moon made the speech on the occasion of marking the 72nd anniversary of the liberation of Korea from Japanese rule.

The newspaper accused Moon of intending to "kick the buck for the escalating tensions on the Korean peninsula to the DPRK and carry out his treacherous 'north policy' with the backing of outsiders."

Around 3.5 million people have applied to enlist in the North Korean army to fight with the United States, South Korean Yonhap news agency reported Saturday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The North Koreans, including students, workers and retired soldiers, have requested to join or reenlist in the military in light of the government’s earlier vows to retaliate against the United States after the UN Security Council approved new sanctions against Pyongyang, the North Korea’s Workers' Party newspaper Rodong Sinmun reported as quoted by Yonhap.

News Story: Pyongyang blasts Seoul over 12 DPRK women allegedly abducted to south

PYONGYANG, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Thursday condemned South Korea for forcing into marriage 12 DPRK women who were allegedly abducted last year when they were working abroad.

A spokesman for the DPRK Emergency Measure Committee for Rescuing Abducted Persons issued a statement saying South Korean authorities are "resorting to sordid operations to evade the repatriation of detained DPRK women citizens."

"By forcing into marriage the 12 DPRK girls whom they took to South Korea after abducting them in a group overseas in April last year, the South Korean authorities are trying to give the impression that they have 'settled in South Korea to lead a stable life' at their 'own will.' This is aimed at rejecting the demand of the DPRK for their repatriation," it said.
