Leonardo announced today that the Government of Pakistan has signed a new order for an undisclosed number of additional AgustaWestland AW139 intermediate twin engine helicopters. The aircraft will be used to perform utility, SAR (Search and Rescue) and EMS (Emergency Medical Service) operations across the nation. Deliveries are expected to start in early 2018.

The contract is a further step towards the completion of fleet renewal programmes spread over several batches plus logistic support and training. This event is a major achievement for Leonardo expanding the already successful presence of the AW139 model in the country. A fast growing fleet of AW139s is already in service in Pakistan, with several units operated by the Pakistan Government for relief and transport duties. News Story: Russian Helicopters in talks with India for 200 aircraft

Russian Helicopters is in talks with the government of India for the potential sale of 200 helicopters to support various security roles.

Representatives for the state-owned defense enterprise say both parties are finalizing the terms of the contract. Under the current draft, 140 of the rotorcraft will be built in India.

The remaining 60 will be supplied by the company's existing facilities in Russia.

"We are now discussing terms and conditions for the contract and copter configuration," Russian Helicopters deputy CEO Igor Chechikov told Indian media.

"We expect to produce more helicopters from India, given the country's demand for a wide range of defense and security related equipment."

News Story: New Orders Boost AW139 Market Leadership, Says Maker

Leonardo Helicopters said that Pakistan has become the latest government customer for the AW139 medium twin-engine helicopter, ordering an undisclosed number for transport and medical evacuation missions. The Italian Coast Guard ordered two more of the same type, bringing its total fleet to 12. The Italian company, previously named AgustaWestland, claims market leadership for the AW139 in the intermediate weight class, with more than 960 sold to almost 240 customers in over 70 countries.

A significant proportion of those sales have been for defense and parapublic applications, such as trooplift, search and rescue, border patrol and maritime surveillance. Government customers for the AW139 include Algeria, Bangladesh, Cyprus, Estonia, Italy, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Panama, Qatar, Spain, Sweden, the UAE and the UK. Repeat orders have boosted the total, such as one from the Thai Army last October for eight, adding to the pair that it originally acquired.

The signing was held in Islamabad in presence of the H.E. Italian Ambassador Stefano Pontecorvo. The contract is part of a fleet renewal programme spread over several batches including a logistic support and training package. The AW139s, deliveries of which are expected in 2017, will be used to perform search and rescue across the nation.

This contract marks a significant achievement for Leonardo-Finmeccanica in Pakistan, further expanding the already successful presence of the AW139 helicopter in-country. A total of 11 AW139s are already in service in Pakistan, with 5 aircraft operated for Government relief and transportation duties.

New contracts worth a total of 140 million Euro for Finmeccanica-AgustaWestland helicopters. During the Helitech International Show held in London, the company announced orders for the AW139 and AW169 new-generation helicopter models, by both commercial and Governmental European and Asian customers for a total amount of eleven.

Industry: Bangladesh Air Force Orders Two AW139 Helicopters
