Why Chinese survey ship is in Benham Rise?
Satellite photos and incident reports revealed that Chinese ships were plying Benham Rise, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said on Thursday.
He said China could be trying to explore Benham Rise to look for a spot to place submarines.
However, the reason for the Chinese survey in the area has yet to be determined according to Lorenzana.
“So we know they are there,” Lorenzana said.

Lorenzana orders PH Navy to take out Chinese ship surveying Benham Rise
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said Thursday he gave orders to the Philippine Navy (PN) to remove the Chinese presence who were caught surveying the Benham Rise in the East Philippine Sea.
A Chinese service ship was seen surveying Benham Rise according to satellite images. The waterway is a 13-million hectare undersea region and biodiversity hotspot located east of Luzon.
