The unilateral ceasefire with the Philippine Government in August last year was terminated on Wednesday, Feb. 1 by the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front.

Presidential adviser statement on NPA ceasefire termination

Presidential adviser on the peace process Jesus Dureza on Wednesday said the decision will be up to the President with regards to the New People’s Army (NPA) announcement of terminating the unilateral ceasefire.

In a speech in Cagayan de Oro, Dureza said he would recommend to President Rodrigo Duterte to maintain the ceasefire on the part of the government.

DND Lorenzana reacts on NPA’s ceasefire termination

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Wednesday said the military would continue to desist from launching attacks against the New People’s Army in observance of the government’s unilateral ceasefire.

The statement came after the Communist Party of the Philippines-National Democratic Front-NPA announced the lifting of the rebel side’s own unilateral ceasefire on Wednesday morning.
