News Story: US backs Phl law enforcement, maritime security

MANILA, Philippines - The United States yesterday renewed its commitment to support the Philippines in law enforcement and maritime security despite the two countries’ differences over President Duterte’s brutal war on drugs.

US Ambassador Sung Kim reiterated the commitment in a 45-minute meeting with Duterte in Davao City yesterday afternoon, presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said.

“He reiterated the commitment of the US to the bilateral relationship with the Philippines, which he described as solid,” Abella said in a statement, referring to Kim.

“Furthermore, he discussed US-Philippines military cooperation, particularly in the fight against terrorism, and the extent of US assistance to Mindanao,” Abella said.
