News Story: Ghani Said What India Wanted To Hear: Aziz

In response to President Ashraf Ghani's remarks about Pakistan at the Heart of Asia Conference in India, Sartaj Aziz, Foreign Affairs Adviser to Pakistan's Prime Minister, said the Afghan leader was siding with India in saying what he did in a country "which is hostile to Pakistan".

"One can understand their anxiety, and we also understand that (Afghan President) Ashraf Ghani making a statement on a soil which is hostile to Pakistan. Obviously he was trying to follow their preferences, what they would like to hear," Aziz said.

However, a number of Afghan analysts supported the remarks by Ghani and said further efforts to strengthen ties with Pakistan would not be effective.

"The president should take a harsh stance inevitably, because all his efforts to improve ties with Pakistan saw no results," said Haroon Mir, a political affairs analyst.
