News Story: Watchdog Warns Of Political Interference In ACJC

Transparency International (TI) has said there is still political interference in the Anti-Corruption Criminal Justice Center (ACJC).

According to the watchdog it has raised the issue because the center is working on specific cases while there are dozens of other cases that need attention.

Addressing a gathering on Tuesday, Srirak Pilpat, Regional Director of the Asia Pacific Department for Transparency International, said: "When you have more than 10 anti-corruption agencies, you will tend to have this problem in terms of coordination, the overlapping of mandates. And when two or three agencies have to work on one single case, you will see this problem."

The watchdog urged the Afghan government to establish a new commission in order to monitor the ACJC's activities.
