News Story: China counters reports on improving ‘situation’ of Filipino fishers at WPS

The situation at the disputed Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal in the South China Sea “has not changed and will not change,” despite reports on Chinese vessels that blocked the area for four years had stopped harassing Filipino fishermen, said on Monday by China’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Hua Chunying.

“The relevant situation has not changed and will not change,” she told a regular briefing.

“China will make proper arrangements on issues of President Duterte’s interest,” Hua said, without giving details.

Meanwhile, Duterte’s national security adviser, Hermogenes Esperon, confirmed there had been no agreement between the two countries about the Scarborough Shoal.
