News Story: Pakistani PM offers to hold talks with India to resolve outstanding issues

ISLAMABAD, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday that his country wants to resolve all outstanding issues with India through dialogue.

Sharif made the remarks at a joint session of the parliament that was called to discuss the current tensions between the two countries.

Relations between the two countries have been strained since the September 18 attack on an Indian army base in the Indian-controlled Kashmir that killed 19 soldiers. India blamed Pakistan-based "Jaish-e-Muhammad" group for the attack.

Sharif told the parliament that Pakistan has offered to hold a composite dialogue with India time and again, but "our efforts were always sabotaged."

"Resolution of Kashmir issue is imperative for durable peace in the region," he said.

He called on India to come forward and work together or compete for elimination of poverty and unemployment from the region and work for the welfare of the people of the region.

The prime minister said it is unfortunate that India blamed Pakistan just six hours after the attack in the Indian-controlled Kashmir, adding that Pakistan has demanded for an impartial investigation into the incident.
