| A Chinese Navy Type 071 LPD |
Yimengshan, the PLA Navy's fourth Type 071 amphibious transport dock, will be assigned to the East Sea Fleet in December of this year according to the Beijing-based Sina Military Network on Sept. 21.
The PLA has commissioned three Type 071 dock landing ships, Kunlunshan, Jinggangshan and Changbaishan, since November 2007. All three were assigned to the South Sea Fleet in preparation for potential conflict over the disputed South China Sea. Yimengshan will be the first Type 071 landing platform dock to enter service with the East Sea Fleet for a potential amphibious attack against the disputed Diaoyutai islands in the East China Sea (Senkaku to Japan, Diaoyu to China), which are under Japanese administration.
