News Story: Beijing protests Japanese official's remark on India territory dispute


Beijing has protested Japanese foreign minister Fumio Kishida's remark that an area claimed by both China and India is part of India's northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh, reports China'a Global Times.

Kishida said the area was "an Indian territory which was disputed by China" in a question and answers session after giving a speech during his two-day visit to India on Jan. 17 and 18. The official said that Japan will double investments in India's northeastern region but not the disputed area. Kishida reviewed several infrastructure projects with his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj during the visit, which included civil nuclear cooperation.
