News Story: KF-16 Fallout - BAE Cuts 191 Jobs

By AARON MEHTA

WASHINGTON — BAE Systems has laid off 191 employees at a Fort Worth, Texas, facility as part of the continuing fallout from South Korea’s cancellation of a contract to upgrade its fleet of F-16 fighters.

The company issued Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notices on the employees Nov. 6. Traditionally, WARN notices are to be issued 60 days before termination; however, the unexpected cancellation of the contract forced a faster pace.

A spokesman for BAE noted that the employees are encouraged to pursue employment within other segments of the company, and said BAE is trying to “provide opportunities” for those laid off.
