News Story: Four ways the PLA could take over Taiwan

There are four main ways China's People's Liberation Army could choose if they were to attempt to take over Taiwan, according to a Pentagon report published earlier this year cited by US-based blog War Is Boring.

The first way would be a naval blockade to starve Taiwan out, as the island imports much of its food and fuel from overseas. The PLA Navy could also compel ships to stop at mainland ports for inspection. The Pentagon report also said Beijing could declare the waters around Taiwan to be live-fire training zones, as it did previously in 1995, which would discourage ships from entering it.

The report said however that China is currently unable to enforce a full military blockade, although its ability to do so will improve significantly over the next five to 10 years.
