Japan has revealed its ambition to become a new arms exporter in Asia by promoting the sale of 12 Soryu-class submarines to the Royal Australian Navy, according to a commentary by the Chinese-language Guangzhou Daily published on June 16.
After Tokyo passed the three principles on the transfer of defense equipment in April, 14 major Japanese defense firms, including Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, attended the Eurosatory defense trade show in Paris this week. Various Japanese military equipment, including armored vehicles and minesweepers, will be on display at the biennial event from June 16-20 in the hopes of attracting potential consumers in Europe.
