India: Visit of Rear Admiral Ng Chee Peng Chief of Navy Republic of Singapore Navy


Rear Admiral Ng Chee Peng, Chief of Navy, Republic of Singapore Navy called on Admiral RK Dhowan, Chief of the Naval Staff today. Earlier in the day, the visiting Chief honoured the sacrifice made by our soldiers by laying a wreath at ‘Amar Jawan Jyoti’, India Gate, New Delhi. Thereafter, he was received at the South Block lawns by Admiral RK Dhowan with the traditional ‘Guard of Honour’. 

Visit of Singapore Naval Chief is expected to intensify the cooperation between both navies and strengthen historical ties between both navies. Incidentally, 2014-15 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore. The interaction between the Armed forces of the two countries has been historic, since both countries operated together in various campaigns during the Second World War. Presently, Singapore has a Defence Cooperation Agreement besides a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement with India. 

The two Chiefs are planned to discuss issues of cooperation between both navies and regional maritime security. During his stay in India, the RSN Chief would also be interacting with COAS, CAS and the Defence Secretary.
