Procurement of defence equipment is made from various Indigenous as well as foreign sources including United States in accordance with the Defence Procurement Procedure. This is a continuous process undertaken for the modernisation of the Armed Forces to keep them in a state of readiness to meet any eventuality.
Defence equipment has been imported from various countries including Russia, USA, Israel, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Poland etc. The imports cover various types of weapon systems and platforms.
Some of the recently concluded defence deals with foreign vendors are for Konkurs Missiles, UBK Invar Missiles, Basic Trainer Aircraft, MI-17 V5 helicopters, Sonobuoys, Torpedoes and Surveillance Radar Systems.
A broader base of vendors and countries helps the country obtain equipments on a competitive basis while reducing dependence on any particular source.
