Several generals from the People' Liberation Army have admitted to the Tokyo-based Kyodo News anonymously that the Japanese frigates Onami and Yuudachi were targeted by the fire control radar of the PLA frigates Wenzhou and Lianyungang on Jan. 19 and 30, respectively.
Though Geng Yansheng, spokesman for the Chinese defense ministry, has denied the incidents, analysts in Japan believe the contrary message sent to Tokyo by these senior military officials in Beijing reflects their own attitude regarding the incidents.
