Japan's defense ministry has announced that its domestic P-1 patrol aircraft designed and produced by Kawasaki Heavy Industries will begin its service with the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force this month, reports the Tokyo-based Kyodo News.
This month, two P-1 aircrafts will be deployed to the Atsugi Air Base in Kanagawa prefecture in southern Japan. About 70 P-1 aircrafts will be produced to replace 80 American-built P-3C Orion patrol aircrafts currently equipped by the country's maritime defense force.
