Brunei: EXERCISE AIR GUARD 18/12 OFFICIALLY BEGINS

RIMBA, Thursday 1 November 2012  - A 28 member delegation from 18 DA BN Royal Singapore Air Force (RSAF) will be conducting a joint Air Defence exercise called EXERCISE AIR GUARD 18/12 with members of the Air Regiment, Royal Brunei Air Force from the 1 November till 14 November 2012.

Led by the head of contingent, Major Tan Ban Huat, the participating members from Singapore, which consist of officers, specialists and Air Defence operators, arrived yesterday at Rimba Air Force Base. The Opening ceremony which took place today at the Royal Brunei Air Force Base started with a parade consisting of members from 18 DA BN RSAF and Air Regiment RBAF and ended with a simulated air attack.  On hand to officiate the opening was the Commanding Officer of the Air Regiment, Lt Col (U) Abdul Rahman bin Hj Durahman.

Since its inauguration in 1994, exercise Air Guard has expanded its scope with the introduction of the Mistral Air Defence System and has been conducted between the Air Regiment,RBAF and 18DA BN RSAF on an annual basis, with the two organizations  alternating as hosts. This year represents the 18th time that exercise Air Guard has been conducted, with the previous exercise AirGuard having been held in Singapore late last year. The two week long exercise will consist of air defence theory and practical lessons, leadership and sports interaction activities and finally cumulating with a 3 day field exercise.

The Aim of the exercise is to foster closer ties between RBAirF and RSAF as well as to provide realistic air defence training for Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD) operators from both sides.
