NEW (SONAR) DOMES READY TO MAKE THEIR BOW WITH THE INDIAN NAVY

Kamorta class Corvette (Wiki Info)

The fourth, of a series of four, Bow Sonar Dome for the new class Project 28 ASW ‘stealth’ Corvettes, being built for the Indian Navy, has now been completed by Tods Defence Limited.

This type of carbon fibre bow-mounted Bow Sonar Dome is a first for the Indian Navy, and UK-based Tods have specially designed and built the Sonar Domes, and associated fairings, specifically to meet the operational specification of the new type of vessel. The Sonar Domes have been supplied to Garden Reach Shipbuilding, in Kokatta, for installation during the ship build programme.

Steve Burton, Managing Director of Tods Defence Limited, said: “Our on-going technical development partnership with the Indian Navy dates back to the early 1990’s, and we believe that our to our specialist technical leadership in the design and build capability for bow mounted sonar domes has again been recognised for this new generation of Indian Navy vessels”

Tods Defence are currently integrated in a number of international partnerships for the design and build of acoustic composite structures for both surface ships and submarines, including the Australian Air Warfare Destroyers (AWD), Royal Navy Type 45 and Astute programmes, the US Navy DDG 1000 platform and Spanish S80 submarine project.
