Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Nonproliferation Thomas M. Countryman will travel to Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand from October 16 to 21 to hold bilateral discussions on regional nonproliferation cooperation, including issues related to the upcoming East Asia Summit, which Indonesia will host in mid-November.
During the visit, the Assistant Secretary will engage with senior government officials to discuss ways to expand cooperation, in support of United Nations and other international obligations, on preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, their means of delivery and related materials. He will also meet with young diplomats, journalists, and representatives of civil society groups to exchange views on nonproliferation issues.
