USA: Enterprise Rescues Overboard Sailor

From USS Enterprise Public Affairs

ARABIAN SEA – USS Enterprise (CVN 65) successfully recovered one of its Sailors who went overboard on April 3, at approximately 9:30 a.m. local time, while the ship was operating in the Arabian Sea.

The Sailor was quickly recovered by a SH-60F helicopter from Helicopter Anti-submarine Squadron (HS) 11, assigned to Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 1, which was already airborne as the standby Search and Rescue (SAR) helicopter. SAR helicopters are frequently airborne during flight quarters as a safety measure.

The Sailor sustained minor injuries and is being treated by the ship’s medical department.

The Sailor has been in contact with family members, but due to privacy considerations, the Sailor’s identity will not be released.

The incident is under investigation.

Enterprise and CVW 1 are in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility on a routine deployment supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and maritime security operations.
