New York (VNA) – United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has warned of a looming humanitarian catastrophe in western Myanmar due to recent violent conflicts in Rakhine state that forced 18,500 to evacuate to Bangladesh and left more than 100 dead.
On September 1, a UN spokesperson said the Secretary General urged parties concerned to exercise restraint.
Earlier on August 30, the UN Security Council convened a closed-door meeting to discuss violence in Rakhine state, but there is not any formal statement on the crisis.
