HAMBURG (Kyodo) -- Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met Friday with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, seeking to deepen security and economic ties, and pave the way for the Japanese leader's envisaged visit to India.
During the meeting on the sidelines of a Group of 20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, Abe is apparently hoping to share concerns with the Indian leader over China's maritime assertiveness in Asia.
Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force is scheduled to take part in trilateral drills in the Indian Ocean with the navies of India and the United States later this month.
