SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, June 7 (Xinhua) -- A teenager was killed after a bullet hit him during a search operation launched by government forces in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said Wednesday.
The 18-year-old boy Adil Farooq was killed late Tuesday evening at Ganawpora village of Shopian district, about 56 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
Police said a joint contingent of paramilitary and army had gone to the village to nab militants present there.
"Security forces cordoned off some houses on a specific input regarding the presence of militants at Ganawpora in Shopian district this evening. During the search operation an unruly mob started heavy stone pelting on the forces and also a brief exchange of fire took place," a police spokesman said.
