News Story: Afghan forces recapture key district in northern Kunduz province

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Afghan forces after five days of fierce fighting recaptured the control of Imam Sahib district in the northern Kunduz province on Saturday, a spokesman for police in the province Inamudin Rahmani said Sunday.

Around 100 militants including nine foreigners have been killed and more than 120 others sustained injuries during the clashes for the control of the district, the official added.

However, the official didn't identify the nationalities of foreign fighters. Rahmani avoided commenting on possible casualties of security personnel over the period.

Taliban militants launched well-coordinated offensives on security checkpoints in Imam Sahib district a week ago to overrun the strategically important district.
