BEIJING, March 29 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese mainland and Taiwan belong to one China, and "Taiwan independence" can never be allowed, according to a Chinese mainland spokesman Wednesday.
Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks at a press conference.
"We will continue to uphold the 1992 Consensus, which reflects the 'One China' principle," Ma said.
"We will strive for peaceful reunification with the greatest efforts and utmost sincerity but will never allow any Taiwan independence supporters to separate Taiwan from China in any name or in any form," he added.
Ma said that Taiwan independence was against the fundamental interests of Taiwan compatriots and the Chinese nation, had no future and was doomed to no support from Taiwan's public.
