News Story: Pro-Pyongyang group claims Kim Jong Nam assassination is S. Korean plot

KUALA LUMPUR -- A pro-Pyongyang group in Japan has been claiming in its email newsletter that the assassination of Kim Jong Nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, in Malaysia is a South Korean plot.

A Japanese public security authority official has pointed out that the North Korean authorities are using the group, the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan, known as Chongryon, to wage propaganda war against the international community.

Chongryon for the first time mentioned the Feb. 13 incident in its email newsletter "Korea News" on Feb. 20.

Quoting local news reports in Malaysia, the newsletter reported the details of Feb. 17 remarks made by the North Korean ambassador to Malaysia in Japanese.
