A group of attackers entered Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan Hospital, also known as army hospital, in Kabul after an explosion at an entrance gate of the health facility on Wednesday morning, security officials confirmed.
Clashes are ongoing between security forces and the attackers at parts of the hospital's building, the Ministry of Interior spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said.
At least three dead bodies and 54 wounded were taken to Wazi Akbar Khan Hospital while 12 other wounded were taken to Emergency Hospital in Kabul, the Ministry of Public Health said.
The attack took place at around 9am at Kabul's local time after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives at the main entrance gate of the hospital while four other attackers entered into the compound, a source said.
