News Story: 24 militants killed in eastern Afghan operations

PUL-E-ALAM, Afghanistan, March 2 (Xinhua) -- About 24 militants were killed by the Afghan Special Forces in two eastern provinces, local authorities said on Thursday.

In one operation, 16 Taliban were killed and eight others detained after Afghan commandos launched a night raid operation in Charkh district in Logar province, Salim Saleh, provincial government spokesman, told Xinhua.

"The raid was carried out on a specific intelligence inputs and among the killed was a Taliban local leader named Sana Gul," Saleh said, adding the security forces also seized weapons following the raid in the province, 60 km south of national capital Kabul.
