Senators believe, downplay plot to oust Rody

By Paolo Romero

MANILA, Philippines - There is indeed a plot to destabilize the administration of President Duterte,  Sen. Joseph Victor Ejercito said yesterday.

Ejercito said the lawyers – Jose Diokno, Arno Sanidad and Alex Padilla – surrounding self-confessed Davao Death Squad hitman Arthur LascaƱas during his press conference at the Senate on Monday were the “familiar” faces that conspired to overthrow his father, then president Joseph Estrada.

“They (lawyers) were the same people who conspired, who were with the conspirators to oust then president (Joseph) Estrada at that time (2001) so they’re here again,” he said.

“I hope President Duterte should be wary because destabilization efforts take time. It’s like termites slowly destroying you until you’re weak and you’ll be pushed aside,” he said.

“These people have a record already of being conspirators in the past.”

No destabilization plots as far as AFP is concerned

By Artemio A. Dumlao

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Marine Col. Edgard Arevalo, chief of armed forces' public affairs office, said Tuesday night that the military has not monitored any destabilization plots and that troops will not support any plots even if there were.

Arevalo said plotters will not get support from members of the military “especially this time that our commander-in-chief has already manifested his care to the members of the AFP.”

President Rodrigo Duterte, he added, “has shown this in the many instances that he visited our camps and personally talked to our soldiers.”

Troops, the AFP spokesman said, “have witnessed the support that the president is extending, especially the efforts of the president to visit our soldiers in the field and the family of our fallen soldiers despite his busy schedule.”

The military has also been promised equipment and assets they require to accomplish their mission, Arevalo added.
