Navy welcomes visiting Russian anti-submarine ship, sea tanker

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Navy welcomed yesterday an anti-submarine ship and a large sea tanker from Russia at Pier 15 in Manila’s south harbor.

Both vessels are on a goodwill visit in the Philippines from Jan. 2 to 7 and would be used for several activities, including a Russian Marines capability demonstration.

Russian warship in Manila for naval exercise

MANILA, Philippines — A warship from Russia's Pacific Fleet docked in Manila on Tuesday morning in time for a maritime exercise with the Philippine Navy.

Russian Navy vessels Admiral Tributs, a large anti-submarine ship, and Boris Butoma, a large sea tanker, docked at Manila South Harbor, according to a report on Interaksyon.com.

Singapore-based Straits Times reported that the Russian vessels are in the Philippines for a "goodwill visit."

The marines on board the Admiral Tributs are expected to show off their weapons and tactics on Thursday, the report said.

President Rodrigo Duterte has been expressing his desire to forge stronger ties with Russia as part of his administration's pivot to an independent foreign policy.
