News Story: Vietnam, India bolster defence partnership

New Delhi (VNA) – Vietnam and India have reiterated their desire to increase bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of defence, for mutual benefits and peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.

During talks between Vietnamese Minister of Defence Ngo Xuan Lich and his Indian counterpart Manohar Parrikar in New Delhi on December 5, the two sides expressed their belief that the former’s visit to India from December 4-7 will strengthen relations between the two countries’ peoples and armies.

Minister Lich said the elevation of bilateral defence collaboration to a new height will contribute to the comprehensive strategic partnership agreed by top leaders in September 2016.

The two ministers highlighted the traditional friendship between Vietnam and India, which was founded by late President Ho Chi Minh and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, and nurtured by generations of leaders and peoples of the two nations.

India is a close and reliable friend to Vietnam, Lich said, adding that the Vietnamese Government and people remember India’s assistance in the cause of national independence and reform.
