Russian ambassador to Afghanistan, Alexander Mantytskiy, on Saturday addressed the Meshrano Jirga to explain his country's relationship with the Taliban and said Russia and Taliban have shared interests in fighting Daesh in Afghanistan.
He said Daesh is trying to reach Central Asia, Russia and China and that Russia has formed a relationship with the Taliban to secure its citizens' lives.
"Zamir Kabulov (a high-ranking official) said that our interests are the same as Taliban in fighting Daesh. If you say it is not right, I do not agree. It is clear that Taliban fight Daesh. We never have said that we back up Taliban in fighting Daesh," he said.
Mantytskiy also said that America has failed to tackle insurgents and that Russia is ready to support Afghanistan in fighting terrorists.
