Security forces have launched a military operation to clear a number of insecure areas in Shah Wali Kot district in Kandahar province, officials said on Wednesday.
The officials said at least 13 villages have so far been cleared of Taliban in the district.
The district police chief, Bacha, said an increase in conflicts in Uruzgan, Kandahar’s neighboring province, has affected the security of Shah Wali Kot.
