A number of lawyers and critics on Tuesday criticized the first Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum for assaulting and kidnapping Ahmad Khan Eshchi, former governor of Kunduz and former deputy head of the National Islamic Movement of Afghanistan.

Eshchi has reportedly been in Dostum's custody for the past five days.

Critics said this act by the first vice president questions government's rule in Jawzjan province.

"Parallel governments have been established. People are punished privately. This seriously weakens the central government and questions the country's judicial centers," said Ainuddin Badahuri, CEO of Afghanistan's Lawyers Union.

Meanwhile, military commentator Muhsen Mukhtar said anyone who commits a crime should be punished or imprisoned by relevant organizations based on the law.

"If someone has committed a crime or is a criminal, he or she should be introduced to legal and judicial centers to be punished," Mukhtar added.
