Beijing Fisheries Assistant Director Liu Sin Chong on Saturday visited Zambales and announced that China is prepared to provide assistance to local fishermen on orders of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Xi has ordered the immediate coordination with the Philippine government to take a look at how China could potentially provide assistance to fishermen in Masinloc, Zambales, said Lui.
The Chinese official also clarified that Filipino fishermen may already freely catch fish in the Scarborough Shoal, even with the Chinese Coast Guard ships patrolling the area.
Chinese authorities also said they are open to providing additional knowledge to Filipino fishermen in terms of agriculture, aquaculture, fish cages, and other alternative livelihoods.
