BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- The call, by President Xi Jinping on Wednesday, for the collaborative creation of a cyberspace community of common destiny is a shared aspiration of the international community, especially developing nations.
The rapid development of the Internet has changed the world in which we live, bringing new opportunities as well as new challenges to the human society, Xi said in a live-broadcast speech to the opening ceremony of the third World Internet Conference (WIC).
The Internet is a dynamic, global domain. It is more than a platform for fervid shopping, from it has emerged systems that change the way we live our lives and the way we interact with the world around us.
The rise of the global village has also shone a light on issues such as imbalanced growth among nations, incomplete governing rules and unbalanced order. These tensions have materialized as identity theft, online crimes, cyber attacks and terrorist activities.
As the information gap among countries and regions continues to expand, it is increasingly difficult for the existing rules that govern cyberspace to represent the will and interests of the majority of nations.
Consequently, different nations are experiencing contrasting fates in cyberspace.
