India's Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) yesterday, Nov.8, cleared major defence proposals worth USD 12.3 billion, which should greatly boost its air and land power and future combat performance. The proposals which have been cleared include the procurement of 83 Tejas Mk-1A fighters and about 600 mini-Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).
The DAC decision brings the total number of Tejas fighters ordered to 123 examples. A first batch of Tejas fighters was ordered in 2006, followed by a second batch of 20 aircraft in 2010. This new order brings the total number of Tejas fighters ordered to 123.
