Since August, people living in Kaishantunzhen in Longjing city have been evacuated by the Chinese military, reportedly to accommodate construction equipment, in response to Pyongyang’s ongoing nuclear weapons and ballistic missile testing.
The DPRK has responded to this activity by building a lookout post on the border to surveil progress on the facilities, as well as deploying about 20 soldiers. UPI quoted a Korean-Chinese Longjing source saying, "The Chinese leadership seems to preparing for the collapse of the North Korean regime."
Beijing remains an ally to North Korea despite these measures, defending the communist country against sanctions brought by the US, South Korea and the UN Security Council. After Pyongyang’s fifth, and most recent underground nuclear detonation, China closed its border, reopening in September.
The base is being built at Kaishan Tunzhen South Mountain Community.
