News Story: Supreme Court Justice disagrees to Dutertes plan minimizing patrol in South China Sea

Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio said the Philippine Constitution mandates the State to protect its 200-nautical mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), hence compromising President Rodrigo Duterte’s plan to limit naval and maritime patrols within the country’s 12-nautical mile territorial sea.

“The Constitution says the State shall protect its EEZ. The Philippines must protect its EEZ, that’s the mandate of the Constitution,” Carpio said.
