News Story: Myanmar closes border trade point with Bangladesh following armed clashes

YANGON, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar has temporarily closed a border trade point in the western Rakhine state with Bangladesh due to armed clashes in the border area, the Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday.

Three border posts in Maungtaw were attacked on Oct.9 by hundreds of armed men with five soldiers and eight policemen being killed in the incident.

A total of 30 attackers, including two women, have also been killed and 12 others captured in a follow-up armed clashes between the government troops and armed men since the border posts were violently attacked in Maungtaw, according to the Home Ministry.
