Japan’s prime minister Shinzo Abe will meet on Wednesday with his Filipino counterpart Rodrigo Duterte to boost bilateral ties and acting as a mediator to ease tensions between the Philippines and the United States.
During the meeting, Abe plans to suggest that Duterte repair relations with the US following a number of statements in which he has expressed his hostility to Washington, Japanese government sources told Kyodo news agency.
