Brazil, the Russian Federation, India, China, and South Africa - BRICS - on Sunday at a summit expressed deep concern over the current security situation in the Middle East, especially Syria and Afghanistan and North Africa, according to reports.
"We are deeply concerned about the situation in the Middle East and North Africa. We support all efforts for finding ways to the settlement of the crises in accordance with international law and in conformity with the principles of independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the countries of the region," the leaders of BRICS said at the end of the summit.
BRICS called upon all the concerned parties in Syria "to work for a comprehensive and peaceful resolution of the conflict taking into account the legitimate aspirations of the people of Syria, through inclusive national dialogue and a Syrian-led political process based on Geneva of 30 June 2012 and in pursuance of the UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and 2268 for their full implementation."
