News Story: (Afghanistan) Massoud Cynical on Taliban Talks And Appointments To Key Posts

President Ashraf Ghani's Special Representative for reforms and good governance Ahmad Zia Massoud on Thursday voiced his displeasure over appointments made in some key government positions.

He said they were done without his involvement.‎

"The philosophy of good governance is that they should have consultation with us whenever an appointment is made in important and high level positions, but when an appointment is made in a key position, the decision is made on the high level and we remain unaware," Massoud stated.

Referring to recent reports about a secret peace negotiation process between the government and the Taliban, Massoud raised doubts over the outcome of these talks, saying the Taliban are preparing for war next year.

As frustration over the news of secret talks between the government and the Taliban grows, Massoud said he was not aware of such talks happening in Qatar.‎
