South Korea and the United States have recently held a military exercise practice against North Korea's nuclear and missile facilities.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – South Korea and the United States have recently held a military exercise practice "surgical strikes" against North Korea's nuclear and missile facilities, local media reported Thursday.

"The U.S. Air Force's 353rd Special Operations Group conducted a combined striking exercise against an enemy's facilities with the South Korean Army's special forces brigade at a military base in Gunsan (274 kilometers south of Seoul)," a defense official told the Yonhap News Agency.

According to the official, Seoul and Washington focused on sending their special forces into the country should there be a conflict in the region.

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula escalated in September after North Korea claimed to have successfully exploded a nuclear warhead. The country reported having detonated a hydrogen bomb in January.
